Code of Conduct
1. Purpose and Scope
This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected from all individuals involved in TAFU activities, including staff, volunteers, participants, mentors, partners, and collaborators. It applies to all TAFU programmes, events, online communications, and community spaces; whether virtual or in-person.
2. Core Values
TAFU is founded on values that guide every interaction:
- Respect for people, cultures, and our environment
- Inclusivity, celebrating diversity in all forms
- Responsibility in all actions and decisions
- Transparency in all conduct and communication
- Empowerment through learning, collaboration, and partnership
- Integrity in everything we do
3. Expected Behaviour
All TAFU members and participants are expected to:
Respect Others
- Treat everyone with kindness, patience, and respect.
- Embrace diversity and avoid discrimination based on race, gender, age, ability, background, or belief.
- Respect differing opinions and promote constructive dialogue.
Act with Integrity and Transparency
- Be honest, ethical, and open in all engagements.
- Take responsibility for words and actions, especially when mistakes occur.
- Represent TAFU truthfully and avoid misleading others.
- Avoid conflicts of interest or disclose them when they arise.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully, whether in person or online.
Look After Safety and Wellbeing
- Report harassment, bullying, or unsafe behaviour to a team leader or safeguarding officer.
- Do not engage in or encourage any form of abuse or misconduct.
- Maintain a professional and appropriate tone in all interactions, both online and offline.
Promote Learning and Mentorship
- Support and uplift members and peers, particularly those that are younger or less-qualified.
- Create a safe and welcoming space for questions and curiosity.
- Share knowledge generously and learn humbly from others.
Protect the Planet and Each Other
- Look after everyone’s safety and wellbeing.
- Speak up against bullying, harassment, or unsafe behaviour.
- Treat all spaces, online or offline, as places where everyone should feel safe, respected, and supported.
- Be kind, responsible, and willing to help others when they need it.
4. Unacceptable Behaviour
TAFU does not tolerate:
- Harassment, discrimination, or abusive language
- Dishonesty, plagiarism, or misrepresentation
- Exploitation of others’ work, time, or ideas
- Environmental harm or disregard for sustainable practice
- Any action that could damage TAFU’s reputation or compromise its mission
- Rude, disrespectful, or disruptive behaviour
No excuses will be accepted. Regardless of stress, disagreement, or personal circumstances, nothing justifies violating this Code. Everyone is responsible for their actions at all times.
Important Note on Unacceptable Behaviour
All forms of unacceptable behaviour, whether subtle, hidden, or openly expressed, will be treated with equal seriousness.
Even if behaviour is disguised as “jokes”, passive remarks, silence, or indirect actions, if it causes harm or discomfort, or even has the potential to, it will be addressed just as firmly as more obvious violations.
Impact matters more than intention.
5. Reporting Concerns
If you witness or experience a breach of this Code:
- Report it promptly to the designated safeguarding contact or a senior team member.
- Confidentiality will be maintained to the fullest extent possible.
- TAFU will take all concerns seriously and respond with fairness and care.
6. Consequences of Misconduct
Violations of this Code may result in:
- Verbal or written warnings
- Removal from events or projects
- Termination of volunteer or partnership agreements
- Referral to external authorities where legally required
No justification will be accepted for violations. All individuals are expected to uphold the Code consistently, regardless of circumstance.
7. Commitment
By participating in TAFU’s initiatives, all individuals agree to uphold this Code of Conduct. It reflects our shared commitment to building a better, kinder, and greener world.
